Reporting to the Team Lead, Water Testing Services, the Microbiology Lab Technician provides hands-on support for a range of Water Testing Laboratory activities and projects, including water sample testing, advanced microbial analyses, laboratory quality control, report preparation, and instrument calibration and maintenance.
This onsite laboratory role is part of the Sales team and is based in London, Ontario.
In this role, a typical day will look like:
- Performing comprehensive analysis of wastewater samples (e.g., Total coliform analysis via membrane filtration, UVT, TSS, pH, and iron) in accordance with standard procedures and established guidelines, including the preparation of sample reports.
- Completing daily, weekly, and monthly QA/QC tasks, including equipment calibration, autoclaving, media preparation, and inventory management, data entry, and other tasks related to water analyses.
- Generating accurate sample reports and ensuring meticulous data entry to support scientific and research activities.
- Providing technical support in a scientific and research laboratory environment.
- Participating in performance testing and validation projects, including system setup, operation, and data collection.
- Maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory workspace by strictly adhering to specialized safety protocols and training requirements.
- Collaborating with internal teams such as Research, Logistics, QA/QC, and Sales to achieve project objectives
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related field; or an Advanced Diploma in Biotechnology or Environmental Technology.
- 0-2 years of experience in a professional laboratory setting (e.g., Water, Food, Pharma, or Environmental); previous hands-on experience is considered an asset.
- A strong foundation in sterile laboratory practices, aseptic handling, membrane filtration protocols, and instrument calibration.
- Comfort working in a scientific environment involving wastewater samples and chemicals while wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Compensation:
- The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.
- The compensation range for this role is $50,000 -$60,000 CAD per year. This job is also eligible for bonus pay.
- We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, and medical/dental/vision insurance to eligible employees.
