Head of Product Analytics & Data Science
Lead a Product Analytics & Data Science team, balancing hands-on work with people leadership and stakeholder management. Requires 5+ years of experience in data analytics/science and 3+ years managing contributors.
We’re looking for a player-coach to lead our small, but impactful Product Analytics & Data Science team.
You’ll oversee a small team of experienced data engineers and help hire a new data analyst, while personally contributing to high-leverage data projects.
You’ll partner closely with Product, Customer Experience, Field, and Business Systems teams to connect product usage with customer value — helping Benchling serve both our internal stakeholders and external users more effectively.
This role is suited to someone who enjoys operational stability, is energized by cross-functional collaboration, and can help advocate for data-driven work even when headcount and resources are limited but where sustained, meaningful impact is both possible and expected.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and support a small, dedicated team of data engineers and analysts through mentorship, technical guidance, and priority setting.
- Roll up your sleeves to personally own and execute on key projects, especially those that cross organizational boundaries (e.g. customer success, field operations, and product).
- Define and maintain a roadmap of high-impact data work that supports both product insights and internal business operations.
- Serve as the connective tissue between product data and customer-facing teams by helping integrate insights across systems and functions.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to scope, prioritize, and execute analytical work in service of concrete business and product decisions.
- Champion data quality, documentation, and rigor across everything your team touches.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of relevant experience in data analytics or data science, including fluency with tools like SQL, Python or R, and cloud data environments.
- 3+ years of experience managing individual contributors.
- You’ve led small teams and are comfortable balancing hands-on work with people management.
- You excel at stakeholder management, particularly in navigating competing priorities and advocating for data-informed work.
- You’re comfortable working within constraints and know how to drive meaningful progress in low-investment environments.
- You enjoy translating complex data into actionable insights and take pride in making systems and people work better together.
- Bonus: Experience working in or with life sciences R&D and/or enterprise SaaS organizations.
