S&P Global Market Intelligence, a division of S&P Global, is looking for an Associate Director to join the Risk & Valuation service team in Tokyo, Japan.
S&P Global Market Intelligence Risk & valuation service licenses Credit Assessment Scorecards, which are used by credit professionals to score obligors and facilitates the purpose of quantifying credit risk. Scorecards comprise a set of scoring sheets (that put together a set of qualitative and quantitative parameters, algorithms and lookup tables) and are delivered to the client along with detailed user guides, technical documentation, training workshops and ongoing client support.
These tools have been widely used for critical business processes of our clients, such as assigning internal ratings, calculating risk weighted assets, pricing of loans and loan loss provisioning. In particular, scorecards are de facto tools to assign internal ratings that can be mapped to S&P Global Ratings for low default asset classes such as specialized lending, Fund financing, financial institutions, large corporates and sovereigns. Development of the tools leverages S&P Global Ratings’ published methodologies/criteria, data and default histories.
This role will focus on diagnosing requirements and providing appropriate suite of strategic credit risk management solutions to our clients, mainly financial institutions. The candidate will also provide vital technical and analytical support in business development initiatives in his/her main areas of expertise. He or she will work closely with the global product development teams (analytical development team), the sales team and the client support team to grow and support S&P Global Market Intelligence’s business.
Core Responsibilities
- Delivery of Scorecards. This includes application workshops so that clients fully understand how to use the scorecards. The candidate will be expected to prepare supporting case studies for training workshops and presales workshops. Also, he or she will provide analytical support to clients for proper application of the scorecards per their business needs. This includes periodic Q&As on methodologies.
- Undertaking Assessments of Credit (AoCs). He or she will receive information on the obligors to be assessed, run Scorecards and deliver the results in the form of AoC reports.
- Updating and maintaining (U&M) of Scorecards. Scorecards are regularly updated to reflect changes in methodologies, financial profile of obligors and industry trends. The candidate will work closely with the global scorecard's development team in development, update and testing of scorecards including data collection, benchmark creation, testing and update of documentation. Results of the U&M exercises, including the performance statistics, should also be conveyed to the existing clients.
- Presales. Meeting with potential clients and discussion on their business requirements in credit risk management and offering fit-for-purpose solutions to the clients, in cooperation with the sales team. At times, communication topic will be analytical and technical. Wide knowledge of credit risk management and regulatory requirements is strongly preferred.
Core Skills and Requirements
- Post graduate degree required
- At least 10 years plus direct experience of either of the following:(1) Credit analysis or lending at major financial institutions or rating agencies(2) Planning and operations of internal rating framework at major financial institutions(3) Business consulting on credit risk management for financial institutions clients(4) Product management of credit assessment models at model vendors
- Experiences in lending to or analyzing credits of low default asset classes, such as specialized lending exposures (project finance, object finance, real estate finance), financial institutions, large corporates or sovereigns.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
- Excellent credit risk analysis capabilities
- In-depth knowledge on credit risk management practices, including regulatory requirements
- Experience in or understanding of commercial banking / investment management space, with a focus on credit / lending
- Intermediate accounting knowledge
- Intermediate probability and statistics knowledge
- Fluent in Japanese and business level of oral and written English skill
- Established relationship building and time management skills
- Strong ability to communicate with clients in a clear manner with strong presentation skills
- Ability to interact with and influence the decision-making on analytical and commercial matters with internal teams across countries and functions, as well as clients
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team-based environment
- MBA, CPA, CFA or CMA candidates are welcome
