Principal Compensation Consultant
Design and model compensation programs, lead public filing preparation, develop compensation philosophy, and provide expert guidance.

- Design and model our future-state executive and broad-based compensation programs (cash, bonus, and equity)
- Lead the preparation of all compensation-related materials for public filings, including the Compensation Discussion and Analysis (CD&A) and proxy tables, in close partnership with Legal and Finance
- Develop and implement company compensation philosophy, including peer group selection, job architecture, and market-based salary structures
- Act as the senior compensation consultant to HR Business Partners and Recruiting, providing expert guidance on complex executive offers, promotions, and retention packages
- Establish and run scalable, SOX-compliant compensation processes (e.g., annual review, equity refresh) and systems to support our growing organization
- Create communication and enablement materials to educate leaders, managers, and employees on private and public company compensation programs
About You
- 12+ years of experience recommended in compensation, with a deep focus on public company and pre-IPO environments
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience designing and modeling complex executive and broad-based equity programs (e.g., RSU, ESPP, performance equity)
- Deep expertise in public company compensation governance, including preparing proxy disclosures (CD&A), working with compensation committees, and ensuring SEC and SOX compliance
- Exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations for a senior audience
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, "build-from-scratch" environment as a hands-on senior individual contributor who can drive both strategy and execution
Carta’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, exceptional benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions plans. Our minimum cash compensation (salary + commission if applicable) range for this role is:
- $224,000-$280,000 in San Francisco and New York
- $212,800-$266,000 in Seattle
