The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
As a Machinist, you will play a key role in operating CNC mills and lathes to support our growing manufacturing team. You’ll work closely with teammates to ensure parts are produced safely, accurately, and on schedule. This role offers hands-on experience, opportunities to learn new equipment, and room to grow as our capabilities expand.
We’re looking for a dependable team players who takes pride in quality work, values safety, and enjoys solving problems in a collaborative shop environment. Positions are available on day and night shifts; some schedule flexibility is required. The current schedule is four 12-hour shifts per week.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC and conventional mills and lathes
- Perform CNC setups, including tool selection, tool offsets, work offsets, and part validation
- Read and interpret G-code and M-code; make basic program edits at the control when needed
- Use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc.) to inspect parts during and after machining
- Perform routine machine maintenance and coordinate with support as needed
- Follow safety procedures and report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues
- Maintain attention to detail and contribute to process and workflow improvements
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 to 5 years of experience operating CNC mills or lathes
- Ability to read and understand G-code and M-code
- Understanding of machining and shop safety practices
- Ability to perform basic math, including algebra and geometry
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience performing full CNC setups on mills and/or lathes
- Familiarity with Fanuc or similar CNC controls
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances
- In-process and final inspection experience
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to hold close tolerances (±0.001")
- Experience in a production or fast-paced manufacturing environment
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in a shop environment for extended periods
- Willingness to work occasional overtime or weekends as needed
