Orthopedic Surgeon - Generalist/Subspecialist
The U.S. healthcare system has a design problem. Orthopedic care – one of the most in-demand, highest-impact specialties in medicine – is locked behind a system that treats access as a privilege, not a right. We re-built Genesis to fix that.
After 17 years studying what traditional practice gets wrong, we tore up the playbook. What we've built is something the industry hasn't seen: a financially sustainable, high-throughput, accessibility-first orthopedic model that doesn't ask patients to choose between quality and affordability. We're not a nonprofit. We're not a hospital system. We're a private practice operating at startup velocity – and we’d love for you to join us.
We’re looking to relieve our existing surgeons from significant burden, and also grow new volume. We need a surgeon who wants to build something, not just join something.
The Opportunity
You won't spend your first year hunting for volume. We'll provide you a near full case load from day one. Whether you focus on sports medicine, total joints, spine, upper extremity, pediatrics, foot and ankle, or prefer general orthopedics, we have a patient population that actually needs you. Then we'll give you the infrastructure to grow: 1-3 APPs who refer into your clinics, EPIC EMR, strong referral networks, and the support of the largest health systems in Illinois.
But the real upside isn't just the compensation (though it's competitive). It's potential equity. It's the chance to be a builder – a partner – in a model that's going to define what orthopedic care looks like in the next decade.
What You'll Work On
- High-volume, high-variety casework. We are looking for surgeons across sports medicine, total joint replacement, spine, hand & wrist, shoulder, hip, knee, elbow, foot & ankle, and even pediatrics, or General Orthopedics.
- Shaping clinical protocols with a team that's data-obsessed and outcomes-driven, where cost reduction is a priority.
- Research and product development opportunities for surgeons who want to push the field forward
- Team physician roles with professional sports teams and local institutions
- Practice-building – referrals, relationships, community presence – for those who want ownership over their growth
Who We're Looking For
You're BC/BE in orthopedics (generalist or subspecialist – we want both). You're licensed in Illinois or can be. What actually matters:
You think like an operator. You care about efficiency, outcomes data, and sustainable unit economics – not because someone told you to, but because you understand that accessible care only works if the model works.
You want to own something. Not just a panel. A practice. A model. A future.
You believe the system can be better. And you're tired of waiting for someone else to fix it.
You want to be able to treat everyone…tired of people telling you who you can help, and who you can’t because of insurance.
The Stack
- Competitive base + performance incentives
- Equity / partnership pathway
- Full benefits (health, dental, vision, retirement)
- Malpractice coverage
- CME allowance
- Shared call
- EPIC EMR
- Real administrative support
About Genesis
Most orthopedic practices pick a lane: either they serve patients with means, or they serve everyone else. We rejected that tradeoff.
Genesis is a full-spectrum musculoskeletal platform – surgery, physical therapy, and everything in between – operating across 16 clinics throughout Chicagoland. We've built the kind of end-to-end care infrastructure that most health systems spend decades trying to assemble. We did it in the community, on purpose, for everyone.
At the core, we know every surgeon is driven to provide high-quality work. The problem is that the existing system doesn’t allow that quality you to give it to some people (not everyone). At Genesis we’re committed to changing that. Whether you’re a professional athlete (whom we serve) or a laborer immigrant, we’re committed to ensuring that everyone gets access to high-quality that you can provide.
We also run clinical trials – because we're not just delivering the current standard of care, we're helping define the next one. Surgeons here have the opportunity to contribute to research that moves the field, not just their panel.
This is what a modern MSK platform looks like when you build it around the patient instead of the payer.
If you're ready to stop practicing inside a broken system and start building the one that replaces it – apply now.
Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is actively reviewing applications. Generalists and subspecialists both encouraged to reach out.
