Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI

As a Senior AI Applied engineer at Vanta, you will play a crucial role in shaping Vanta’s AI offerings, improving our systems, and setting technical strategy for our end-to-end ML/AI architecture. You’ll be part of the core AI team, working alongside a multidisciplinary group of product engineers, machine learning engineers, product managers, and security and compliance experts to implement, scale, and maintain data pipelines that accelerate AI innovations. In this role, you’ll build solid infrastructure foundations and high-leverage developer tools that empower Vanta’s engineers to create and enhance high-quality AI products efficiently.

What you’ll do as an AI platform engineer at Vanta:

• Team up with product engineering teams to design and implement AI-powered features to deliver customer value and integrate LLM models with the existing products and systems

• Work closely with other engineers at Vanta to understand their pain points in AI development and identify opportunities for improvements

• Design, build, and improve AI infrastructure and tooling to unblock product strategy

• Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation

• Set an example for effective, collaborative engineering culture, and help mentor junior team members

How to be successful in this role:

• At least 5 years of industry experience as a software engineer

• You have knowledge in designing, developing, and deploying applications leveraging LLM models and systems, with a strong focus on Prompt Engineering, Fine Tuning, RAG implementation and Agentic frameworks

• You have experience designing, building, and scaling full-stack applications, including backend systems, APIs, and frontend interfaces

• You understand how to improve ML systems, creating eval sets, and driving quality hill-climbing

• You are comfortable operating up and down the stack: frontend, API, backend, and database

• You have worked at rapidly scaling startups and large companies, especially with environments that prioritize a bias for action

• You are action-driven, willing to roll up your sleeves and engage directly with users. While you bring strong opinions, you prioritize building a platform that meets users where they are
