Overview
The Expert Product Manager is responsible for owning a defined product domain within Veradigm's Provider portfolio, driving strategy and execution in alignment with the organization's long-term vision. This role requires leading product discovery and delivery across a focused area — such as EHR clinical workflows, practice management, or interoperability — while contributing meaningfully to broader portfolio strategy. You will partner with empowered product teams including engineers, designers, and user researchers to identify customer problems and deliver solutions that create measurable outcomes. As an Expert PM, you are expected to operate with a high degree of independence within your domain, communicate clearly across teams, manage execution risks, and be accountable for outcomes — while leveraging guidance from Principal PMs and product leadership on cross-portfolio decisions.
Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Planning
Contribute to and execute product vision and strategy within your domain, ensuring alignment with business objectives and healthcare regulatory requirements (ONC certification, HIPAA, Cures Act, HTI-1)
Define success through measurable business and customer outcomes. Establish and track OKRs that guide your team toward solving real customer problems rather than shipping features
Apply strong understanding of clinical workflows (charting, ordering, e-prescribing, scheduling), practice management operations (billing, claims, revenue cycle), and EHR certification requirements to ensure products deliver meaningful value
Build business cases grounded in qualitative customer insights and quantitative data to support prioritization and investment decisions
Identify and synthesize opportunities from physician pain points, practice administrator needs, market trends, and regulatory changes within your domain
Product Discovery & Delivery
Lead continuous discovery within your product area to address value, usability, feasibility, and viability risks before committing engineering resources. Conduct structured interviews with physicians, nurses, billers, and practice administrators
Partner with Engineering, Design, User Research, Compliance, and Customer Success throughout discovery and delivery in an Agile software development environment
Own product roadmap and backlog prioritization for your domain with sound business judgment. Make transparent trade-offs based on patient safety, clinical efficacy, operational efficiency, and business value
Drive cross-functional development and product launches from concept to delivery. Manage release strategies including feature flags, phased rollouts, and post-release monitoring
Define and track key performance indicators demonstrating product impact. Use analytics tools (Snowflake, Mixpanel, Power BI, Gainsight) to measure adoption, usage, and outcomes.
Cross-Functional Communication
Translate complex healthcare and technical concepts for diverse audiences. Create clarity for non-technical stakeholders while providing sufficient depth for technical teams
Create comprehensive documentation including PR-FAQs, customer problem briefs, user scenarios, user journeys, sequence diagrams, and workflow diagrams
Influence without authority across organizational boundaries. Drive alignment among stakeholders with competing priorities through evidence and customer empathy
Facilitate technical discussions between engineers, compliance teams, and business stakeholders to align on solutions that meet healthcare regulations and business needs
Technical Expertise
Possess solid technical background to collaborate effectively with engineering teams on feasibility assessments, trade-off discussions, and implementation approaches
Understand EHR system architecture, including clinical data models, HL7 and FHIR interoperability standards, healthcare data exchange patterns, and integration with labs, pharmacies, and clearinghouses
Use modern prototyping and validation tools — including GenAI-powered platforms — to test ideas quickly before committing to full development
Collaborate with senior and principal engineers on technically complex initiatives. Demonstrate working knowledge of distributed systems, data architecture, and CI/CD pipelines sufficient to participate meaningfully in architectural conversations
Stay current on healthcare technology innovations including GenAI applications in clinical documentation, ambient listening, and clinical decision support
Coordinate with TechOps teams (DevOps, DBOps, InfoSec) to ensure solutions meet security, scalability, and operational requirements for healthcare data.
Leadership & Collaboration
Lead by example within your product domain in discovery rigor, customer focus, and outcome-driven decision-making
Support the growth of junior product managers by sharing domain knowledge, discovery techniques, and technical context — serving as an informal resource and thought partner
Build trusted partnerships with engineering, design, and business stakeholders to align on direction within your domain
Track and analyze metrics to report progress against key objectives to product leadership and relevant stakeholders
Establish effective working relationships across functions to remove obstacles and keep initiatives moving forward
Contribute to a collaborative team environment that encourages innovation within healthcare regulatory constraints.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Business, Healthcare, or related field
7–10 years of demonstrated success in product management, with a track record of independently owning and delivering products end-to-end
Strong customer knowledge with experience conducting research with healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, administrators, billers) and translating insights into successful products
Solid technical background with ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams, assess technical feasibility, understand system architecture, and work with healthcare data standards
Experience in an Agile environment with proven ability to drive the Software Development Lifecycle
Strong communication skills with ability to create compelling product narratives and translate between technical, clinical, and business domains
Proficiency with data analysis using SQL and analytics platforms (Snowflake, Mixpanel, Power BI, Gainsight)
Strong bias for action with demonstrated initiative and comfort navigating ambiguity, with guidance available when needed
Proven ability to manage moderately complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders across clinical, technical, compliance, and business functions.
Preferred
Healthcare technology experience, particularly with EHR systems, practice management software, or clinical workflow automation
Understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements (ONC certification, HIPAA, Meaningful Use, MACRA/MIPS, Cures Act), payment models (fee-for-service vs value-based care), and clinical quality measures
Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7, CCD/CDA) and integration patterns for labs, pharmacies, and clearinghouses
Familiarity with GenAI applications in clinical documentation, ambient listening, or clinical decision support
Familiarity with AWS and cloud architecture for healthcare applications
Understanding of clinical data models, EHR certification requirements, and patient safety considerations in software development
Experience informally mentoring or supporting junior product managers
