Job Summary
Role Purpose
- Provide SQL DBA coverage during overnight hours to monitor and maintain Azure SQL Managed Instances (batch processing) and Azure SQL Databases (application development).
- Ensure stability, performance, and reliability of critical overnight operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor overnight batch jobs, identify performance issues (blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries).
- Troubleshoot SQL processes (review SPIDs, execution plans, logs) and resolve issues where possible.
- Follow SOPs to rerun or restart failed jobs; escalate when required.
- Maintain Azure SQL Databases used for application development (performance, security, and cleanup).
- Perform proactive maintenance (statistics updates, index optimization) during low-load periods.
- Respond to SQL and system alerts in near real-time.
- Basic Windows administration: RDP into servers, check services, manage scheduled tasks, review log files.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years SQL Server DBA or technical support experience.
- Strong T-SQL troubleshooting skills, knowledge of blocking, deadlocks, execution plans.
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database.
- Basic Windows server administration skills.
