The Role
We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to support and evolve our production database landscape across PostgreSQL, Oracle, and AWS-managed database services.
This is a hands-on technical role focused on reliability, performance, availability, security, and automation of mission-critical databases. You will work closely with engineering, SRE, and security teams to ensure our database systems are stable, scalable, and secure by default.
Responsibilities
- Administer and support production environments across PostgreSQL, Oracle, Aurora/RDS, MongoDB, and DocumentDB.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness (replication, backups, PITR, failover testing).
- Perform performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
- Implement and maintain backup/restore procedures and upgrade strategies.
- Monitor database health and define meaningful alerts and dashboards.
- Improve operational processes through automation and Infrastructure as Code.
- Support secure access models and enforce governance standards.
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis related to database systems.
- Contribute to database standards, documentation, and operational runbooks.
- Support developers with schema design, indexing strategies, and performance troubleshooting.
Must Have
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in database administration or database engineering.
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL:
replication (physical/logical),
partitioning,
performance tuning,
PgBouncer / RDS Proxy,
vacuum strategy,
pgvector.
- Strong experience with Oracle:
backup/restore,
AWR/ASH diagnostics,
Data Guard,
patching and upgrade strategies.
- Production experience with AWS data services:
Aurora (Postgres/MySQL),
RDS (Postgres/Oracle),
DocumentDB,
MongoDB.
HA/DR design and PITR implementation experience.
- Solid understanding of database security:
encryption at rest/in transit,
RLS (Postgres) / VPD (Oracle),
IAM and least-privilege models,
secrets management (KMS / Vault).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for database provisioning.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Performance Insights, AWR, pganalyze/PMM or similar).
Nice to Have
- Multi-region or global database topologies.
- CDC and migration tooling (AWS DMS, Debezium).
- Experience with vector databases and embeddings.
- Cost and capacity optimization experience.
- Experience working in high-load fintech or payment environments.
