Job Description
The Head of Manufacturing Engineering will lead the strategic and technical execution of vehicle program launches. You will be responsible for bridging the gap between design and production, ensuring that manufacturing lines are optimized for throughput, ergonomics, and cost-efficiency. This role requires a leader who is equally comfortable in the boardroom presenting to steering committees as they are on the shop floor conducting bottleneck analysis.
Core Responsibilities
IE Leadership: Lead and manage a team in conducting time and motion studies; develop standardized work and balance operator workloads to align with takt time using Pre-determined Time Standards (MTM, MOST, or MODAPTS).
Stakeholder Management: Present station readiness plans to the Steering Committee and customers; present line balancing data to the core launch team (Product, Engineering, and Operations).
Throughput Optimization: Lead throughput and bottleneck analysis to identify improvement opportunities and eliminate process constraints.
Cross-Functional Direction: Provide direct guidance to Station Design, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams to implement design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and process improvements.
Ergonomics & Simulation: Ensure data for ergonomic evaluations using digital tools (e.g., Process Simulate Human or ErgoMan) is provided to responsible teams to ensure operator safety and efficiency.
Validation & Launch: Validate PFMEA and process documentation for compliance; support pilot builds, tool tryouts, and process validation during pre-production phases.
Continuous Improvement: Lead Kaizen workshops and Lean Manufacturing initiatives to drive first-time quality and minimize downtime.
Data-Driven Reporting: Track and report critical launch metrics including cycle time adherence, FTQ (First-Time Quality), and throughput performance.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Experience: 10+ years in manufacturing engineering with a focus on high-volume automotive launches.
Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in MTM/MOST, PFMEA, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
Software Skills: Familiarity with PLM tools (Codebeamer, Windchill, or Teamcenter) and digital manufacturing simulation software.
Leadership: Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams and external supplier relationships.
