Senior Litigation Attorney (Cape Town Northern Suburbs)

We are seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney based in the Cape Town Northern Suburbs to take over an established and active client portfolio. This role spans a broad mix of litigation matters and requires a practitioner who is confident managing diverse cases independently while continuing to build and grow their client base over time. The position operates on a predominantly commission based structure, supported by an initially enhanced base salary during the transition period.
DescriptionThis opportunity is suited to a senior legal professional who is comfortable assuming responsibility for an existing book of clients while also actively developing new relationships to ensure steady and sustainable growth. The role covers a wide range of litigation work rather than a narrow specialisation, offering exposure across multiple practice areas.
The successful candidate will:
Take over and manage an existing client portfolio in the Cape Town Northern Suburbs
Handle a broad mix of litigation matters including civil, commercial, family, property and related disputes
Manage matters from initial consultation and legal strategy through to drafting, court appearances and settlement
Prepare pleadings, notices, applications and other court documentation in accordance with applicable rules
Represent clients in Magistrates Court and High Court proceedings
Provide clear, practical legal advice and maintain consistent client communication
Actively build and expand their client base through networking, referrals and professional relationship development
Strengthen long term client relationships to encourage repeat instructions and ongoing engagement
Ensure effective case management, deadline control and procedural compliance
Maintain accurate billing records and support responsible fee recovery aligned to agreed performance expectations
Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
Minimum 10 years post admission experience as a Litigation Attorney, non negotiable
Proven experience managing a varied litigation caseload independently
Strong drafting skills and confident court advocacy experience
Sound knowledge of Magistrates Court and High Court rules and procedures
Demonstrated ability to manage and grow a client portfolio
Confidence in networking and building professional relationships within the local community
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple active matters simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Clear understanding of and willingness to work within a predominantly commission based remuneration structure, supported by an initial transitional base salary
Predominantly commission based earning model with strong upside potential
