The Software Engineer (Developer) is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable applications and APIs, contributing to the delivery of ICT initiatives within a fast-paced, agile environment. The role ensures high-quality, reliable solutions that integrate effectively across systems while supporting continuous improvement and team collaboration.
This is a 12 month contract role.
What you'll do:
- Develop and maintain secure backend services using modern .NET and REST APIs, including versioning, documentation, and authentication standards.
- Build and enhance React-based frontends that meet accessibility and user experience requirements.
- Integrate internal and third-party systems, including event-driven and API-led architectures.
- Apply secure coding practices and SDLC controls, including code scanning and secrets management.
- Develop and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, UI) and enforce quality standards within CI/CD pipelines.
- Conduct peer code reviews and implement solutions aligned with architecture, security, and performance standards.
- Produce technical documentation, release notes, and operational runbooks to support ongoing service delivery.
- Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, UX, security, and operations within an agile delivery model.
- Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What you'll bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in software engineering (or equivalent experience) with strong experience in cloud-native development patterns.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience designing, building, and supporting secure web applications across backend and frontend technologies.
- Strong expertise in .NET (8/10), ASP.NET Web APIs, REST API design (OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2/OIDC), and React development.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., xUnit, NUnit, Playwright, Selenium) and quality engineering practices.
- Hands-on experience with Azure services (App Services, Functions, Azure SQL, Service Bus/Event Grid, API Management) and CI/CD using Azure DevOps.
- Experience with API-led delivery, governance, performance optimisation, and security best practices.
- Strong understanding of secure development practices, including ISM controls and secrets management (e.g., Key Vault).
- Proven ability to work in agile, multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring capabilities.
- Ability to adapt to evolving requirements and deliver in dynamic, high-demand environments.
