Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Lead People Systems Integrations Engineer who can independently design, develop, and support integrations within the Workday ecosystem, while also being adaptable to work with other HRIS platforms and enterprise systems when required.
This is a senior individual contributor (IC) role responsible for owning the full lifecycle of integrations— from solution design and development to testing, deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
The ideal candidate will bring deep Workday integration expertise combined with functional knowledge of Workday business processes, enabling them to understand how integrations interact with tenant configuration, data structures, and downstream systems. This individual will play a key role in helping evaluate tenant impacts when configuration or integration changes are introduced and will support testing and validation to ensure system stability.
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate strong technical problem-solving capabilities and a mindset for leveraging modern technologies including AI-enabled tools and intelligent automation to improve efficiency, scalability, and reliability across the Better’s technology landscape.
In addition to strong technical capability, the individual should be a collaborative team player who is open to sharing knowledge, supporting team development, and helping strengthen the integration capabilities across the People Systems team.
This role will also serve as a technical integration SME for the People Systems function, helping shape scalable and future-ready integration solutions across HR technology platforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Workday Integration Development
• Design, develop, test, and maintain Workday integrations using the Workday Integration Technology stack including:
➢ Workday Studio
➢ Core Connectors
➢ Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB)
➢ Reports-as-a-Service (RaaS)
➢ Workday Web Services
➢ Document Transformation
• Lead the design and development of complex enterprise integrations using Workday Studio, including orchestration, transformation, and API-based integrations with internal and external systems.
• Build and support inbound and outbound integrations between Workday and enterprise systems such as payroll, benefits providers, finance platforms, identity systems, and third-party applications.
• Evaluate business requirements and design scalable integration architectures that ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Work with API and web services technologies including SOAP and REST APIs, along with secure authentication methods.
• Apply strong understanding of data transformation techniques (XML/XSLT) to process and transform Workday data. Functional Collaboration & Tenant Awareness
• Apply functional knowledge of Workday modules and business processes (such as Core HCM, Benefits, Payroll, etc.) to ensure integrations align with organizational processes and data flows.
• Partner closely with People Systems / HRIS configuration teams to assess the functional and technical impacts of configuration and integration changes.
• Provide guidance on how integration or configuration updates may impact Workday business processes, data flows and downstream systems.
• Analyze the current integration landscape and identify opportunities to improve performance, monitoring, error handling, automation, and scalability.
• Serve as a consultative partner to HR, Payroll, and IT stakeholders to identify effective technical solutions within Workday and across the HR technology ecosystem. Testing, Releases & Operational Stability
• Support and participate in integration testing, system testing, and regression testing across Workday tenants (Sandbox, Implementation, Production).
• Partner with functional teams to ensure end-to-end testing of integrations and related business processes.
• Review Workday bi-annual system releases to evaluate integration and tenant impacts and implement required enhancements.
• Support and troubleshoot production integrations, ensuring timely resolution of issues and minimal disruption to business operations.
• Analyze the current integration landscape and identify opportunities to improve monitoring, error handling, automation, and scalability. Solution Design & Continuous Improvement
• Analyze complex business needs and design innovative solutions within Workday, leveraging integrations, configuration, and reporting capabilities when standard functionality is insufficient.
• Identify opportunities to optimize integrations and automate processes across the People Systems ecosystem.
• Explore opportunities to leverage AI-enabled tools and intelligent automation to improve integration development, monitoring, troubleshooting, and documentation.
• Contribute to strengthening the technical capability of the People Systems team by sharing integration best practices, mentoring where appropriate, and supporting knowledge transfer within the team.
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation to support design, maintenance, and operational stability of integrations.
• Follow established change management, security, and compliance policies, including SOX compliance where applicable.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field
• 5+ years of experience designing and developing Workday integrations, including hands-on experience building complex integrations.
• Proven hands-on experience designing and developing complex Workday Studio integrations independently, including inbound and outbound integrations with enterprise systems.
• Strong hands-on expertise designing and developing integrations using the Workday Integration Technology Stack, including
o Workday Studio (required)
o Core Connectors
o Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB)
o Reports-as-a-Service (RaaS)
o Workday Web Services and APIs
• Experience working with XML and XSLT for data transformation
• Experience integrating Workday with external enterprise systems and third-party vendors • Strong understanding of API integrations including SOAP and REST services
• Experience supporting integrations in Workday implementation, enhancement, or AMS environments
• Working knowledge of Workday data model, business processes, security framework, and reporting
• Experience working with Core HCM and HR-related modules
• Experience supporting integration testing, troubleshooting, and release management in Workday
