The Automotive Division, which includes subsidiaries of GEL, consists of several companies that serve as authorised dealerships for the Nissan and Hyundai brands throughout the Caribbean. Specifically, these dealerships operate in Barbados, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent. In addition to this, the Automotive Division has a diverse portfolio that includes a Rental Brand, which operates in both Barbados and Guyana.
Each dealership within the group offers a comprehensive range of services, including authentic parts, mechanical and electrical workshops, body shops, tire services, and the manufacturing and retailing of vehicle batteries.
Courtesy Garage Ltd, a subsidiary of GEL and a member of the Automotive Division is looking to recruit an experienced and talented General Manager to lead the team at Courtesy Garage Ltd. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer of the Automotive Division.
THE ROLE: As the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the managing and directing the strategic direction of the company.
Core Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership and Vision:
- Develop and communicate a clear vision for the Company aligned to the Division’s organisational objectives.
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term strategies for the Company in collaboration with the senior management team.
Financial Management:
- Drive financial performance, including revenue and profitability growth, and cost control.
- Determine and manage budgets, resources, and procedures.
Operational Excellence:
- Streamline operations, optimize processes, enhance efficiency and quality standards across all departments in each operating company.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to operations, sales, and service.
- Anticipate and adapt to industry disruptions.
- Prepare and present mid year reports which addresses the challenges of the company, resulting impacts and strategies preventative maintenance plan is in place for the effective maintenance and cleaning of the plant, including machinery and equipment.
Market Positioning and Growth:
- Identify and develop new business opportunities and forge strategic partnerships.
- Enhance brand visibility and customer engagement in all market.
- Risk Management and Compliance:
- Mitigate risks related to regulatory changes, supply chain disruptions, and economic fluctuations.
- Ensure compliance with legal obligations, environmental, and safety standards and all regulations with respect to trade and international standards.
Stakeholder Relations:
- Cultivate strong relationships with all stakeholders; customers, union, management, employees, suppliers, and industry peers.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows.
People Leadership and Talent Development:
- Recruit, mentor and retain top talent.
- Cultivate a work environment that fosters collaboration, to drive employee engagement.
- Provide strategic direction to the management team.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or related field.
- Proven experience of 3-5 years in a senior management or leadership role.
- Knowledge of the Automotive industry would be an asset.
- Visionary mindset with the ability to balance short-term goals and long-term vision.
- Demonstrated success in driving business growth and achieving financial targets.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to make sound decisions in a dynamic business environment.
