Vice President - Business Development & Market Strategy

Overview

A confidential search is being conducted on behalf of a privately held company with operations across multiple jurisdictions. This is a newly created, senior leadership role for a commercially driven executive with a long-term strategic mindset and a track record of building high-value partnerships and commercial frameworks at scale.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Vice President of Business Development & Market Strategy will be responsible for developing and executing the organization's commercial growth strategy. This is a genuine builder's role. The successful candidate will have the scope and autonomy to shape markets, build a team, and create lasting commercial value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the organization's business development and market strategy
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities, strategic partnerships, and commercial agreements
  • Structure and negotiate complex, long-term agreements with partners, customers, and service providers
  • Build and maintain a strong external network across relevant industries and stakeholder groups
  • Conduct ongoing market analysis and competitive intelligence to inform strategic direction
  • Develop risk identification and mitigation frameworks related to commercial exposure
  • Represent the organization externally at industry events and contribute to brand positioning
  • Recruit, build, and lead a business development team over time
  • Contribute as a key member of the senior leadership team

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a business, technical, or related field
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in business development, commercial strategy, or a related function
  • Proven track record of developing and managing large-scale, long-term commercial agreements
  • Strong strategic planning capability with an ability to think and operate across long time horizons
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including team building and performance management
  • Self-starting, entrepreneurial approach — comfortable in a lean, growth-stage environment
  • Ability to travel internationally on a regular basis
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate degree or executive education credentials
  • Experience in capital-intensive or project-driven industries
  • Familiarity with complex multi-party contracting structures
  • International commercial experience

Compensation & Benefits Package

Base Salary

$180,000 – $250,000 per year + Performance bonus

Short-Term Incentive: Target 30% bonus based on individual and organizational performance

Long-Term Incentive: Equity-based long-term incentive program
